Results of the 8th European Conference on PHS
The new edition of the European Conference on PHS was held in January in Brussels. A document summarizing its main take aways is now available.
On the 29th of January 2019, the 8th European Conference on Personal and Household Services gathered about sixty-five experts in Brussels to discuss innovative practices in the PHS sector. The conference was co-organised by EFSI and the Consultative Commission on Industrial Change (CCMI) of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).
A great variety of PHS providers, trade unions representatives, scholars and policy-makers were represented in the audience. They were able to discuss the opportunities created by new technologies, especially in the home care sector. The emergence of online platforms and their implications on working conditions and service quality was also thoroughly addressed.
In the framework of the work conducted in EFSI's PHS Industry Monitor, participants discussed how statistics on the PHS sector could be improved. The last roundtable, on the other hand, explored the work-related risks faced by PHS workers and how prevention measures could be implemented when it comes to dangerous substances.
Finally, speakers from the concluding panel expressed their views on the role to be played by public authorities to foster innovation in the sector.
The highlights of the conference can be downloaded and a synthesis report will be published in Spring 2019.
