PHS: 2nd fastest growing employment sector in the EU

Recent Eurofound report shows PHS sector has created more than 155,000 jobs in two years.

Eurofound (European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions)  published in July the 2014 edition of its European Jobs Monitor. The report shows that two branches of the PHS sector have created an important number of jobs between 2011 and 2013:  with 81,192 additional personal care workers and 74,518 additional personal service workers.

As a consequence, with more than 155,000 new jobs, PHS sector is the second fastest growing employment sector behind ICT. This is particularly encouraging knowing that for the same period, “employment levels in the EU28 declined by around 1.3 million”. However,  the report also  underlines  a significant decline of the number of PHS workers directly employed by households and wages level  under the EU average.
